All lessons at IBMS are done online. But unlike subscriptions where you watch a pre-recorded video, all our lessons are done live, in-person, where you or your child can interact with the teacher in real-time.
In the free trial lesson and consultation, your teacher will map out a curriculum that best suits your needs and goals.
You want a regular weekly lesson that follows a classical music standard program? That’s one of our strongest suits. All our students who took their Suzuki piano exams passed with high marks.
Just want to learn a specific genre of music? We can do that for you, too!
Need guidance for an upcoming performance and you need a second opinion? We can schedule a one-time class for you.
Not sure if you can commit to a weekly thing? We have many students who do monthly lessons, and are progressing really well.
The thing is, in any of the lessons you will choose, you will get personalized coaching in real-time.
Lesson Notes
All lesson notes are emailed to you right after the lesson. There is also an option of recording your lesson so you can come back to it and review it anytime.
At parent’s request, younger students are provided a practice coach that is also personalized and tailored to child’s current assignments.
Group Lessons
Outside of regular one-on-one lessons, we also have a monthly group lesson where you can have the opportunity to meet other IBMS students from different parts of the world.
Here are some of the fun things we do during group lessons
- Music theory games
- Sight-singing
- Ear-training games
- Music history (learning the stories behind the pieces and composers)
- Ensemble – playing music together
- …and many more!
Did we say say games? Yes! We gameify learning so that students can have fun and enjoy the process at the same time. Both children and adults love these musical activities!
Lessons That Prepare Students to Serve in Church
We use the Suzuki piano curriculum to teach our students to play in the classical way. I also include some less commonly taught aspects of the piano in my lessons such as:
- Hymn-playing
- Arranging
- Improvisiong
- Composition
- Sight-singing
- Accompanying
- Lead sheets
- Playing in chords
- Music theory
I keep my piano lessons fresh, exciting and interesting, but also train students to be future music ministers that will help lead the church in worship and praise to God.
Exams
All students at IBMS are welcome to sit piano exams with the Asia Region Suzuki Association Piano Exams. These exams can be a great motivator for some, but they’re not for everyone.
I never push a student to do an exam if it’s not something they are interested in. Exams should always be a positive and rewarding experience, not something to be anxious about.
Performance Opportunities
I hold an annual concert at the end of the year which all students are invited to perform in. The concerts are relaxed and nurturing environments where students can build their performance skills and their confidence.
Students who successfully pass their exams also get to have the awesome opportunity to perform their own solo recital.
If there’s anything I haven’t answered here check out the Lesson FAQ or email me and I’ll get back to you ASAP.
