Lessons are taught still using the Suzuki Method or the Mother Tongue Approach, as well as reading by note patterns.
A Child-Centred Approach
Students in this track develop superb musicianship and superior skills in piano, even at a young age. The process is very natural and child-centered wherein the length of the lesson, it’s pattern, pace and material are all made appropriate for the child.
A Strong Technical Foundation in Playing Hymns
Suzuki Level 1 is used to build the foundation for technique and then branches off to other pieces. Unlike the Suzuki track that follows a classical repertoire, majority of the lessons use hymns, hymn arrangements, Scripture songs and classical music that can be used in a sacred setting.
A Balanced Music Education
Supplementary materials and activities are sprinkled throughout the year. These include:
- learning how to play hymns in worship settings
- learning how to read lead sheets
- fun music theory and history classes
- intro to arranging, improvisation and composition
- group lessons
- masterclasses
- music camps
- year-end recitals.
A Stress-Free Culmination of Accomplishments
When the child is ready, he/she plays selected representative hymn arrangements showcasing the pieces learned in their current level. A simple recital is recommended (but still optional).
Here are some performances of my students playing their hymn assignments.
